Invisible Text for Instagram
A real blank line in an Instagram bio is not an empty line — it is a line containing an invisible character, which takes up a place in the text but shows nothing. Copy one here and paste it into your bio or your name field.

How to space out your bio
- Press Copy above. One press copies one character.
- Open Edit profile. Tap into your bio.
- Write your bio first. Put the line breaks where you want them, and leave the gap lines genuinely empty for now.
- Paste one character onto every line you want left empty. The line will still look blank. That is the point.
- Save, then leave the screen and come back. This is the step people skip. The bio often looks right in the editor and closes up once it is stored, so the only view that counts is your profile as a visitor sees it.
Where this works, and where it will not
- Your bio. The main use, and the one that works most reliably.
- Your name field — the display name under your handle. Usually accepts it, and it is fussier than the bio. If it refuses, open the character list in the tool above and try the next one down.
- Captions and comments. Same trick, same character, for spacing out a long caption.
- Your @username — no. Not a limitation of the character, but of the field: usernames accept only letters, numbers, full stops and underscores. Nothing invisible fits that rule, so a blank @username is not possible for anyone. If a site claims otherwise, it is selling something.
Why your line breaks keep vanishing
Instagram strips out lines that are empty. You add a gap, save, and it closes up again.
A line with an invisible character on it is not empty as far as Instagram is concerned, so it survives — and it still looks like a gap.
What it looks like. Type your bio with an empty line where you want the gap, paste one invisible character onto that empty line, and save. Instagram keeps the line because it is no longer empty, and the reader sees a gap.
Repeat for every gap. One character does not hold open the whole bio.
If it did not work
Work down this list in order — the first two account for most of it.
- Check every gap line has its own character. One character holds open one line. Three gaps need three.
- Check the paste actually landed. Nothing appears on screen when it works, which is exactly what a failed paste looks like too. Paste into the detector first — it will tell you whether you are carrying a character at all before you spend an edit finding out.
- Try a different character. Open the chooser in the tool above. Some fields accept one and reject another, and there is no way to know which without trying.
- Try the other Instagram. The app and the website do not always treat the same paste the same way. If one refuses, the other is worth a try.
- Do not retype it. These characters cannot be typed, only copied. Retyping by hand gives you an ordinary space, which is the thing that gets stripped.

Common questions
My bio still closed up after saving.
The blank line probably had nothing on it. Every empty-looking line needs its own character pasted onto it — one is not enough for the whole bio.
Can I make my name look empty too?
Usually yes, with the same character. The name field is fussier than the bio, so if it refuses, try the next character in the list.
Can I make my @username blank?
No, and neither can anyone else. Usernames are limited to letters, numbers, full stops and underscores, so there is no invisible character that fits. The name field above your bio is the one that can look empty.
How many can I use?
The bio has a character limit and every invisible one counts against it, the same as a letter. A few gaps cost you a few characters of writing.
Will it still be there next month?
Usually, but nothing here is promised. Instagram changes how it cleans up text without announcing it. If your spacing collapses one day, paste the bio into the detector to see whether the characters are gone or merely changed.
Will this get my account in trouble?
Spacing out a bio is normal and very widely done. A completely blank display name is more likely to draw attention — keep at least one visible character if you are cautious.
