Invisible Name for Fortnite
A blank Fortnite name is not an empty name — it is a name made of invisible characters, which exist but show nothing on screen. Copy three of them here, paste them into your Epic account name and save.
Made in your browser. Nothing is sent to a server, and nothing you copy is uploaded, stored or logged.
How to do it
- Press Copy above. This copies three characters, not one — see below for why.
- Open your Epic account settings. Find the display name box.
- Clear the box completely before pasting. A leftover letter is the commonest reason a name comes out looking half-done.
- Paste and save.
- Check it in the lobby, not in the settings page. Close the game fully and open it again — the old name is cached in a few places and will keep showing until you do.
Why three and not one
Epic will not accept a display name below a minimum length. One invisible character counts as one character, so it gets refused. Three gets you past it.
Think before you save. Epic only lets you change your display name every so often, so a failed attempt can cost you a while.
A name that is completely blank can also be flagged and reset. Many players use one normal character plus two blanks — it looks nearly empty and is far less likely to be undone.
The part most guides leave out
Your Epic display name is not the only name you have, and on console it is often not the one other players see.
If you play on PlayStation or Xbox, some screens show your console name instead — your PSN online ID or your Xbox gamertag. Blanking your Epic name does nothing to those, and they cannot take invisible characters at all. So a name that reads as empty on PC can still read normally to a lobby full of console players.
The name also stays visible in places that do not use the display name at all, such as your Epic account page and anything to do with purchases.
What usually goes wrong on Fortnite
- “This name is already taken.” The commonest failure, and it surprises people, because a blank name looks like it could not possibly collide. It can: everyone doing this is copying the same character, so three of them is a name thousands of players have already tried. Change the count, or pick a different character from the list — either makes a different name.
- The name box refuses the paste outright. Some browsers paste rich text rather than plain into that field. Paste it into a plain notes app first, copy it again from there, then paste into Epic.
- It saved, but your old name still shows in game. Name changes take a while to reach every screen. Fully close the game and open it again before assuming it did not work.
- It saved and then reverted days later. A fully blank name can be flagged and reset. Pairing one visible character with two blanks is the version that tends to stick.
- Your friends list still shows the old name. That list caches names per device. It catches up on its own.
Common questions
Epic says the name is already taken.
Someone got there first with the same characters. Try a different character from the list above, or a different number of them — that makes a different name.
It saved, but my old name still shows in game.
Name changes can take a while to appear everywhere. Fully close the game and open it again before assuming it did not work.
Will console players see a blank name?
Not always. On PlayStation and Xbox some screens show your console name rather than your Epic display name, and those cannot hold invisible characters. Blanking the Epic name is only half the picture if you play on console.
How often can I change it?
Epic limits display name changes to one every so often. That is the real cost of getting this wrong, which is why it is worth checking the characters survive before you spend the change.
Does it affect my stats or my locker?
No. The display name is a label on the account. Your progress, your purchases and your locker are tied to the account itself.
Can I be banned for this?
It is not a cheat, and plenty of players do it. The realistic risk is that a fully blank name gets flagged and reset, not that your account is banned.
